Bodyelectricdance Studios
Can You Feel It?

Bodyelectricdance Studios is a Melbourne based dance school and cultural phenomenon that has enticed hundreds of Melburnians to don their leg warmers and be part of an unstoppable dance craze like no other.

Choreographer Jade Duffy's dance projects transform the everyday person into a pirouetting, body rolling dancing extraordinaire.

"Bodyelectric is basically teaching non-dancers how to dance but trying to take a professional approach," says Bodyelectric founder Jade Duffy. “Sometimes the dancers get a bit carried away with their expression or with their costumes and it’s a beautiful thing – it makes people laugh. It’s not deadly serious."

Based in Fitzroy and operating in the spirit that ‘anyone can dance’, this diverse group of dance enthusiasts consists of architects, actors, jewellery designers, entomologists through to filmmakers, teachers and landscape gardeners.

Think Flashdance, think Fame – think jazz ballet, lycra, leotards and leg warmers.

Each project culminates into a dance extravaganza of pulse, rhythm and flair where the Bodyelectric dancers show off their finely tuned choreographed moves.

Competing in dance-offs and participating in arts festivals such as the Next Wave Festival and Melbourne Fringe, the Bodyelectric dancers have attracted both local and national press, appearing in The Age newspaper and ABC’s Art Nation.

"We’re mainly a bunch of show offs", says one Bodyelectric dancer in good-humour. "What makes Bodyelectric so special is that you don’t have to be a professional dancer – anyone can participate."

Defying trend, the dance group has grown in numbers and in strength each year; Jade Duffy who single-handedly runs the dance studio, continues to release new classes to keep up with increased student enrollments.

With an all-encompassing philosophy of dance fun, the popularity of the Bodyelectric stems from its ability to captivate and embrace people’s desire and passion to move and express themselves like never before.

“What a feeling. Being's believing. You can have it all, now you’re dancing for your life”
